  1. Tadanobu Asano, Silence, 2016. Martin Scorese’s third religious experience floundered so long in Development Hell that he lost his Japanese interpreter for the Jesuit priests: Andrew Garfield, Liam Neeson and Benicio Del Toro. The film is highly reminiscent of The Mission, 1985 - Best Film at Cannes and the Oscars.
  2. Alexander Skarsgård, Mute, 2017.  UK auteur Duncan Jones’s hero - a mute Amish bartender searchiung for his missing  girlfriend in 2058 -  changed to match his setting during 19 years of development.  From Stevenson in London to Ken Watanabe in Tokyo; finally, Skarsgård in down Sam Rockwell - and made up for it by writing Moon for him. And Berlin.   “A big guy was essential [for] the intimidation factor.”  That’s why he turned shooting it first.
