And the charged changed from Junior Bob r to Adams – who boasted he’d be the first TV series actor (he was The Rebel) to win an Oscar nod. He was right. But so wrong about over-campaigning for gold. His career never recovered from losing to old-timer Melvyn Douglas as the father of Paul Newman’s Hud and, alas Adams ODed on prescription drugs (deliberately or otherwise) in 1968. He was 36.
