- Helmut Qualtinger, Der Name der Rose/The Name of the Rose, France-Italy-West Germany, 1986. Galabru was in the loop when the early casting was tres français: Yves Montand, Philippe Noiret, Jean Rochefort, Mathilda May, etc. This was the 53rd and final film of the Austrian journalist-turned actor. In immense pain during shooting, often having to stop his scenes, “Quasi” died a few hours after completing his role of Remigio da Varagine.
- Bernard Farcy, Iznogoud (Iznogoud - Caliph Instead of the Caliph), France, 2004. The Grand Vizir of the Caliph of old Baghdad was co-created in French comicbooks by René Goscinny (of Asterix fame). He also co-wrote the first movie script with auteur Pierre Tcherina in 1972 - “no deal - just for fun” - aimed at everyone from Vittorio Gassman to Peter Sellers. With Galabru up for Sultan Pullmankar (or Streetcar in English!). The 2004 version aimed much lower.
