- Eric Porter, The Forsyte Saga, TV, 1967. The jewel in the BBC’s crown… even though the suits foolishly decided not to produce it in colour! Bernard Kay had also been in the mix for poor old Soames. Forsyte. He might have been better than Porter, who ’(too) often looked like a dastardly silent-movie villain. Directors knew Kay’s worth so well that he claimed he worked managed years in TV without ever needing to audition.
