When Cary Grant gave up on the film after failing to find the right wife, RKO gave his role to Dennis O’Keefe of all people, in a rapidly downsized production. He was promptly suspended after refusing such an “inconsequential” iL: character. PLH,-author-entertainer-songwrite, was signed which startled O’Keefe to return with his script between his legs. .
