- Helen Mack, Melody Cruise, 1932. The less expensive Garbo/Dietrich (from Marcel L’Herbier’s Le parfum de la dame en noir, 1930) hated her role so mjuch she quit RKO, returned to Germany, then went back to LA - where she dated Gary Cooper, wed Lithuanian-born actor/writer Ivan Lebedeff. She finally retired to Munich where she lived with Erna Hoffmann, widow of Hitler’s personal photopgrapher Heinrich Hoffmann.
