- Henry Fonda, in Harm’s Way, 1964. The previous year saw the veteran Wills hurriedly replacing veteran Grady Sutton, displeasing the often impossible to please tyrannical director Otto Preminger during The Cardinal. Now Wills suffered exactly the same ignominy. “Mr Preminger,” he told him, “my name is Chill Wills and I’m an actor, I’ve been in 144 movies; I’ve been acting for 42 years and you are making me shake.” Otto the Orge fired him then and there and telephoned Fonda.
