- Margaret Markov, The Arena, 1973. Ward was first up for Bodicia until producer Mark Damon voted for Stockton’s gorgeous Markov. His director, Steve Carver, issued hands-off orders to avoid the problems of cast and crew getting together. MM and Damon waited him out and wed in 1976. Just as Spartacus was the inspiration for the girl gladiator teaming of MM and Pam Grier, The Defiant Ones set the tone for their next, Black Mama White Mama, 1973.
