- Chubby Johnson, The Raging Tide, 1950. Broadway’s White fell victim to a virus and Johnson was promoted to General Ball opposite Richad Conte in what was first called Fiddler's Green. Hardly appropriate for a noir thriller! One of the busiest Hollywood character stars, White clocked 176 screen roles during 1943-1996. Including the same role in the 22 years apart cinema and TV versions of Harvey with James Stewart, Frank’s manager in The Frank Sinatra Show, and the top sitcoms: The Dick Van Dyke Show and (his 1996 finale) in Seinfeld.
