Mala Powers (1931-2007)

  1. Marilyn Monroe, Clash By  Night, 1951.      Marilyn’s first important role was, alas, in this this clunky, not to say campy Fritz Lang movie. Most critics preferred Monroe. Jeffrey M Anderson found her especially astonishing as a feisty cannery worker - "she’s already a star."  With "an ease of delivery," noted Daily Variety,  "which makes her a cinch for popularity, given the right roles."
  2. Terry More, King of the Khyber Rifles, 1953.     Re-making the original, 1928 version of The Black Watch had been shelved since 1936, exhausting many Fox producers, directors, writers and stars - including Powers, Audrey Dalton and  Anne Francis for Tyrone Power’s co-star. She was only a British Colonel’s daughter but More played her like a high school cheerleader.
