- Ruth Chattertton, Dodsworth, 1935. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Frieda, a regal loking Scottish actress, tested for the wife of titular Walter Huston. His wife, Nan Sunderland, was also in contention having played the role opposite him in the LA stage production of the Broadway play. Co-star Mary Astor said the wife was “a woman trying to hang onto her youth - exactly what Ruth herself was doing. It touched a nerve.”
