- Benay Venuta, Annie Get Your Gun, 1949. Change of Dolly… while Annie, herself, was (among others) a battle of three Bettys - Garrett, Grable and, finally, Hutton. The musical’s opening number, Colonel Buffalo Bill, featured Frank Morgan as Bill and Wall as Dolly Tate. He died within days and Wall was dropped in favour of the San Franciscan singer. Venuta also played Dolly in the 1967 TVersion, starring Broadway’s original Annie… 21 years later. Ethel Merman at age 59.
