- Wilfrid Hyde-White, The Third Man, 1948. Graham Greene wrote two UK exiles running a literary discussion group for Alfred Hitchcock’s1937 couple from The Lady Vanishes... Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne (my father’s favourite comedy duo) as Caldicott and Charters. Hyde White was a solo (and cheaper) Crabbin. Charters and Caldicott proved such a hit , they also turned up inNight Train To Munich, Millions Like Us and two BBC Radio serials.
