Leon Ames (1902-1993) |

- Lionel Barrymore, It’s a Wonderful Life, 1946.
- Tom Tully, Almost A Bride (ex-A Kiss for Corliss), 1949. Change of Shirley Temple’s father and, indeed, the ,title (for legal reasons) in the major flop that ended Shirley’s career at age 21 - after 58 movies. Although based on one of the Corliss Archer books, the script leaned backwards to her Cary Grant hit, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, 1948. Except this time the older man she fancied was David Niven – in the final film of his Samuel Goldwyn contract.
- Louis Calhern, Two Weeks With Love, 1950. Jane Powell’s father - Horatio Robinson no less - went from Ames to Calhern in MGM’s lightweight frolic for the just-as-lightweight Powell. This was her favourite movie - yes, rather than, say, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers.
- Paul Fix, Giant, 1955.
