1. Jon Voight, The General, 1998. Director John Boorman’s first choice - from Belfast - had a scheduling conflict. “There wasn’t another Irish actor available who could’ve played the part. So I called Jon up. He’s brilliant at accents and I had to have an actor who could stand up to Brendan Gleeson’s power. Jon's been a very close friend over the years [since Deliverance, 1972]. I told Jon I was in trouble. He said: When do you need me? “How about tomorrow?” [laugh]. And the next day, there he was....”
