1. - Ben Alexander, Dragnet, TV, 1952-57. TV’s first great cop, Joe Friday, had bad luck with his partners. Bart died after four episodes. His first successor, Barney Phillips (Bart’s radio co-star in Hawk Larabee) had an editor’s nightmare habit of forever licking his lips and Herbert Ellis was dropped for resembling the boss: Jack Webb.  Ben Alexander finally became Joe Friday's sidekick.
