- Kim Darby, True Grit. 1969. John Wayne (en route to his Oscar as Rooster Cogburn) foolishly promised the role of Mattie Ross to his 13-year-old daughter. Longtime pals or not, director Hwnry Hathaway told Duke to forget it. Between four and nine, Aissa appeared in four movies with her dad: The Alamo, 1960, The Comancheros, 1961, Donovan’s Reef and McClintock, 1963. (Hathaway didn’t make any of them!). And then became an attorney.
