1. - Ben Alexander, Dragnet, TV, 1952-57. TV’s first great cop, Joe Friday had rotten luck with his partners. Barton Yarborough died after four episodes.  Barney, his first successor (and his radio co-star in Hawk Larabee), had an annoying habit of wetting his lips...  and Ellis  looked far too much like the boss, Jack Webb.  Yet he booked for the 1966 tele-movie and three cases  in the ‘67-70 series.  But not as Friday’s sidekick.
