Cécile Aubry (1928-2010)

  1. Suzanne Cloutier, The Tragedy of Othello: The Moor of Venice, 1951.  The Canadian Cloutier  (Peter Ustinov's  1954-1971 wife) was actually the third Desdemona opposite Orson Welles’ Moor.  Italian Lea Padovani and French Cecile Aubry preceded her and went on their way as Welles cut Shakespeare’s three-hour play to 90 minutes… and then took three years to film  it  due to his usual budget difficulties. In fact, to try and  some money, he took a rôle in The Black Rose, 1949 - and fund himself on the same set as… la douce Cécile!
